Palace congratulates Donaire on win vs Vazquez

MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang congratulated Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire for winning the World Boxing Organization super bantamweight championship against Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. Sunday.

Donaire earned a split decision victory over Vazquez to win his fourth weight title in as many weight divisions.

“Congratulations sa ating Filipino Flash Donaire, mukang pang-apat na itong WBO title,” deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said.

Valte said that Donaire’s victory “will bring happiness and pride to our country.”

“Mukang nakakamal na lahat ng belt ng ating mga Filipino boxers,” she added, noting that Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao has also won world championships in eight different weight divisions.

Two judges gave the bout to Donaire, 117-110, while one judge gave it to Vazquez 115-112.
